Because, by God, that’s what it does. Wife came home with this one day because the walking, lunging, pulling, jumping situation when we go out were actually slowly beginning to worsen. Hey it’s not like I’ve been saying that to her for over a month or anything [eyeroll]. MARRIAGE.

The dog will try to get it off a few times, which earns her a nice little tug that she does not care for. When I ask her to heel, she now does it immediately. On our walk, old man sprung out of nowhere and let out a gleeful, “Hi there puppy!” My dog lunged with all her might and spun herself around like a record. One more attempt; same result. I could see the wheels turning in her head: “Well this is not working.” And she came right back to my side. She thinks twice about pulling when she sees a bird. When we pass other dogs, she’s can no longer reach them... which was a huge problem before. She had recently started lunging and landing on dogs if she senses the slightest slack in her leash. Not acceptable. Bad dog, bad dog owner :(

She hates it, but she’ll get used to it. We’re just using it for a bit and going back to a normal harness and see if the behavior carriers over. But that will take a while.

Holy crap this dog has been pushing every boundary HARD for the last month... she’s almost 7 months old. Damn teenagers.

Around the head? Around the chest harness slowly did the trick with my dog. Where does pressure apply with this?

Some dogs just don’t get it. When it’s a big dog that doesn’t get it, the situation can get dangerous.

My first lab would only respond to a pinch collar. He was 95 lbs at one year, so he was really hard to control in the teenager phase. He would even ignore a shock collar. I thought it wasn’t working until we tested it on my roommate’s dog. Instant obedience there. My dog would just look at me quizzically when I pressed the button.

I miss that dog.

This dog is.... very independent, very bold, and does not respond to cutesy shit or bribes. The most important things we’ve taught her effectively were all handled with a zero tolerance policy of sorts.

We’re going to be forced to get a trainer at some point because my wife and I are not consistent... She spoils her but the she does shit like comes home with a choke collar. I don’t spoil her at all and am fairly firm.

Training is as much for the owners as it is for the dog.

Good luck.

Head harnesses are amazing things. This is the only way I can walk one of my dogs. And although he hates wearing it, it’s for everyone’s best interest. I look at it as it’s keeping the dog safe. Not just from other people, but from himself too.

Is that the “gentle leader” thingie? We’ve never used one. I have a big-ass harness for our Akita. Much easier than any kind of neck collar, but he still pulls like crazy. Maybe I need to invest in one of these.
